A love-hate relationship with skirts?
Although I think of myself as a person with a good sense of style, I sometimes fall short in some departments. One of the most difficult things for me to style and the one thing I probably wear the least are skirts. I’m not sure if my love/hate relations with skirts comes from my 10+ years in a Catholic school or because I just find that they don’t fit my body well. Whatever the case is I’m here to lend a helping hand by showing you five easy ways to style a denim skirt.
Before I show you these looks I have to be honest, I purchased this denim skirt months ago and it still has the tag on it. I will say though, after styling these looks I felt like I could definitely incorporate this skirt into more of my everyday looks.
Helpful tip!
To help me style these looks I tried to envision the skirt as a pair of denim shorts. Once I did that it was much easier to style it. For all five looks, I used the same skirt and changed up the top and shoes. I also wanted to show you how you could transition the denim skirt from spring/summer to the fall and beyond.
How to style a denim skirt
Look One: Lets jump right in! Dress it down, take your favorite t-shirt and pair it with some sneakers or sandals. This is the easiest way to wear a denim skirt. Don’t forget to have some fun and tie in the accessories!
Look Two: Let’s step it up a notch, this one might need a little more confidence to wear but it’s one of my favorites. This look is a little more of an edgy street style look. Try pairing a button up with your denim skirt. Try wearing it tucked, tied or off the shoulder to pull this look off. I also really like incorporating sneakers with this look to keep it comfy but cute.
Look Three: Bring on the boho! This fun end of the summer looks pairs a breathable sweater, with some cute sandals! You’ll notice this look it pretty monochromatic with different shades of tan/cognac but they all work great with denim. Add a fun bag for texture and you got the look.
Look Four: Classic chic! If you know me you know I absolutely love anything black and white. So of course, I wanted to show you a black and white look. This one is really super easy to put together, grab a white bodysuit or spaghetti strap and pair it with your favorite blazer. I chose some trendy slides and fun sunglass to tie the look together. So grab a blazer in your closet and throw it over a skirt to get the same feel. Try it out!
Look Five: Bring on the Pumpkin Spice Coffee! Ahhh, I love this fall look! I will admit though as much as I love seeing girls rocking this look, it’s probably the hardest one for me. I just don’t think I could feel like myself in it.
One thing I will point out with this look is to make sure you have a high waisted skirt and cropped top. Also, when you pair high boots with a skirt make sure you have some knee/skin showing between your boots and skirt. If not you’ll look frumpy. So remember, cropped shirt, high waisted skirt and some skin showing!

I hope you found some inspiration in these looks and remember you can try the same looks with denim shorts or your favorite pair of jeans! Now let’s show the skirt some love!
